European visit on pipeline transport, 8 September 2016

The aim of this meeting is to inform European policy makers on pipeline transport and discuss opportunities for wider deployment. Pipelines are a very sustainable form of goods transport. They are mainly deployed for the transport of (liquid) gases and liquids. Future ‘cargoes’ for pipelines include CO2 and possibly mixed cargoes and containers. Pipelines offer realistic possibilities for reducing transport emissions in inter-urban freight.

Pipelines are of economic importance to the chemical industry in North West Europe. The Vlaams Nederlandse Delta wants to become the ‘petrochemical heart’ of Europe by 2040, distinguishing itself by sustainability, efficiency, spatial quality and knowledge. A good cross-border pipeline network is an important precondition here.
